Piece Marking and Indentification
The steel building system will have many individual parts as well as bundles and packages of identical parts. It is important that all of these parts are clearly marked for verification and identification. Bolts and fasteners should be packaged according to type, size, and length. Loose nuts and washers should be packaged according to the size. The steel building system should include shipping documents that include a shipping list showing the quantity, description and piece mark of the various parts. The steel building package should be checked against the shipping documents at time of delivery to ensure there are no missing parts.
Steel Building Material and Part Inspection
Steel building suppliers should have some type of quality assurance program. Materials and parts should be inspected by the supplier during fabrication. If the end customer desires additional inspections, this must be provided by the dealer in the order documents. This inspection would usuallt take place at the plant at a cost of which would be paid by the dealer.
Steel Building Material Loading
Steel building materials are packaged in various ways according to the supplier's standards. These materials are loaded in the manner that is most convenient and economical for the supplier unless otherwise stated in the order documents.
Steel building materials are usually packaged for loading on a 40 foot, flatbed, open trailer. If the dealer is making special arrangements for the shipping that requires special size, packaging, and loading of materials, these requirements must be specified on the order documents.
The carrier is responsible for the securing of materials loaded for delivery. The supplier is not responsible for anything that might happen to the material or equipment as it is loaded and shipped
